I have been looking into getting aerial footage for quite a long time now. Recently my girlfriend bought me a GoPro Black edition, and this immediately got me looking into loads of different uses with a GoPro. Knowing that a DJI Phantom was the perfect quadcopter to attach a GoPro too, I decided to take the plunge and go for it. I went for the version with a Zenmuse 3D Gimbal as I`d heard fantastic things about the stabalization offered.
As well as being hugely passionate about Landscape photography, I have a big interest in video work as well and I love film. I enjoy watching smooth sweeping vistas from high up and its only really in the last few years that the ability to capture the same type of video without the need of a helicopter has become available to anyone.
Recently I headed to Cuckmere Haven or Cuckmere Valley at the crack of dawn because it is nice and quiet and I could just practise and get the feel of using a Phantom whilst capturing some nice footage of the surrounding landscape. I had 2 batteries with me which allowed for about 35mins of flight time and this footage has been edited into a video shown below.
For the processing I used Adobe Premier Pro, After Effects and Lightroom. A bit of a strange workflow as I exported all video clips into still images then edited in Lightroom and then exported back out into still images which could then be imported within Premier as an image sequence.
